The 30th CECAFA Inter-Club Championship 2003

January 26 - February 10, Uganda

Champions league of East Africa

2002 Champion: Simba (Tanzania)

Last year Simba claimed their sixth CECAFA Club Cup to confirm their status as the most successful club in the 29-year history of the competition.

The CECAFA Club Cup is an annual competition held between East and Central African clubs with this year's championship having 13 teams pooled into three groups.

Hosts Uganda and defending champions Tanzania each field two teams.

The top 3 teams from Group A and the top 2 teams from Groups B and C qualify for the quarter-finals. The remaining last-eight spot goes to the best third-placed team from Groups B and C.

Red Sea of Eritrea has topped the Cecafa Club Cup Group ‘A‘, a great achievement for the best and most famous club in Eritrea, and regular participants in African Cup Competitions. They managed to beat teams from Uganda, Zanzibar, Sudan and Tanzania.

Khartoum-3          0 - 1        Red Sea

MlandEdge           1 - 3        Red Sea

Red Sea                3 - 2        SV Villa

Red Sea                2 - 1        Yanga

Indeed what makes this achievement so special is that they have not lost any games and have won all of them. They are now in the quarterfinals, however, Red Sea has played more games than any team in B or C.

Yet, there is a greater challenge awaiting Red Sea who will host Muzinga of Burundi on Wednesday the 5th of February. Muzinga have conceded 5 and scored 9 and lost twice so far. Red Sea must not however under estimate any team they play and must ensure professionalism.

Meanwhile, in Group ‘B’, Simba of Tanzania 6 times crowned East African Club Champions have topped their group and could face Red Sea in the Semi Final. All the teams in Group B were ensured qualification when Borrer of Djibouti displayed a poor performance and have already conceded 18 and scored 1.
